WMS Gifted classes and Science Olympiad team members toured multiple locations on Whiteman AFB last week. Students began their tour with a visit to a B2 Bomber, learning what makes it unique as they were able to explore it from multiple angles and ask questions in small groups. Then, they visited the Non-destructive Inspection (NDI) Flight to see how airplane parts are inspected and how their fluids are tested. Next, students learned how Airmen create needed parts in the Metals Tech Flight. The last stop before lunch was a visit to Weapons Load Training to see inert versions of different bombs at the Air Force’s disposal, learn how weapons are loaded onto the B2, along with a tour through a B2 load trainer and simulated cockpit. After lunch, students learned how the Weather Flight monitors and predicts conditions on base and in deployed locations, along with how aviators use that information in flight. Then, our group learned about the various jobs in air traffic control, both in their on ground operations and by climbing the 12 flights to the top of the tower for a view of the flight line from inside the control center and a walk around the outside of the tower. Throughout the day, students explored the Stealthwerx lab and learned about a variety of engineering and military careers.
We wish to express our extreme gratitude to Dr. Ritter (for being our driver for the day), Mr. Jennings (for ensuring we had a bus), the Airmen at #Stealthwerx for organizing our day and hosting us, and to the gracious Airmen of #WhitemanAFB who welcomed us into their work places and answered all of our questions! #TigerPride

Gifted 6/7/8 students used the engineering design process to recreate "Iconic Skyscrapers." They had 45 minutes to research, plan, build and iterate, and then share their process, challenges, and solutions with peers. We are grateful to WAFB Stealthwerx leadership and a USAF STEM Grant for the new Sphero Blueprint engineering kits. The students loved these new kits! #TigerPride
